Directed drainage
Light strokes follow lymphatic pathways toward functioning drainage points.
Recovery service
Manual lymphatic drainage is a light, directed massage that helps the body clear the fluid that collects after surgery. It reduces swelling and helps tissue settle into its final shape sooner.
Overview
Surgery interrupts the lymphatic pathways that normally drain fluid from tissue. Until those pathways recover, fluid collects, which is the swelling patients see and feel in the weeks after a procedure.
Manual lymphatic drainage uses light, specific pressure along lymphatic routes to move that fluid toward areas where the body can clear it. It is not deep-tissue massage. The pressure is deliberately gentle because the lymphatic vessels sit close to the skin.
It matters most after procedures involving liposuction or significant tissue movement, where fluid retention is more pronounced and slower to resolve on its own.
How it works
Light strokes follow lymphatic pathways toward functioning drainage points.
Moving retained fluid reduces the swelling that distorts early results.
Tissue that is not waterlogged settles into its final contour sooner.
Reducing fluid pressure also reduces the tightness and discomfort of early recovery.
When it's used
Sessions usually begin in the first week or two, on a schedule set by the procedure.
A series of sessions over several weeks tracks the resolution of swelling.
Most relevant after liposuction, body contouring, and breast surgery.
Who it's for
Patients after liposuction, body contouring, and breast surgery. The recovery team sets timing, because starting too early or working too aggressively can do more harm than good.
Every aftercare service is coordinated directly between your surgeon and your recovery providers. Nothing is handed off, and nothing is added without a reason specific to your case.
