Overview

Laser treatments cover a wide range of indications — resurfacing, pigment, vascular lesions, hair removal, scar revision, and skin tightening — each with a different laser technology. Ablative lasers (CO2, erbium) resurface the skin by removing the outer layer; results are more dramatic but recovery is longer. Non-ablative lasers heat the deeper layers without breaking the surface, with shorter recovery and more gradual results. Picosecond and Q-switched lasers target specific pigments. The right laser for any patient depends on their skin type, the indication, and how much downtime they can accommodate.

Who it's for

The right candidate.

Patients with skin texture, pigmentation, vascular lesions, scars, or laxity that can be addressed with laser technology. The right laser depends on what is being treated and the patient's skin type.

Technique

How it's done.

Ablative lasers (CO2, erbium) resurface by removing the outer skin layer — more dramatic, longer recovery. Non-ablative lasers heat deeper layers without breaking the surface — shorter recovery, more gradual results. Picosecond and Q-switched lasers target specific pigments.

What to expect

From consultation to recovery.

Downtime depends on laser and depth. Light non-ablative treatments have a day or two of redness. Deeper ablative treatments require five to ten days of meaningful recovery. Final result over weeks to months.

FAQ

Common questions.

Which laser is right for me?

Depends on the indication and your skin type. Some lasers are not appropriate for darker skin types due to risk of post-treatment pigmentation. The consultation will recommend the laser that fits.

How many treatments do I need?

Some indications need a single treatment; others need a series of three to six. The treatment plan is laid out in consultation.

Will the results last?

Yes, but aging continues. Most patients combine periodic laser treatment with daily sun protection and topical maintenance to preserve the result.

Will I burn?

Properly performed laser does not burn the skin. Selecting the right device for your skin type and following pre/post protocols (sun protection especially) prevents complications.

Is laser safe for darker skin types?

Some lasers are safe across all skin types; others carry pigmentation risk in darker skin. Picosecond and certain non-ablative devices are appropriate options. We assess your skin type and choose the right device.

How many sessions will I need?

Pigmentation often clears in one to three sessions. Resurfacing for fine lines and texture takes three to six. Aggressive scar treatment or significant resurfacing may take more.
